Even though the Peru State men's basketball team had a comeback in the second half, the Mount Mercy Mustangs were able to fend off the Bobcats for an 89-85 win in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, on Saturday.

The win for the Mustangs gives them an outside chance of still making the Heart of America Athletic Conference (Heart) postseason tournament. Mount Mercy improved to 14-14 overall and 9-13 in the Heart. Peru State fell to 15-13 on the season and 14-8 in conference play. The loss dropped the 'Cats into a tie for third place with Benedictine (Kan.) in the league with two games remaining.
