Janice Virginia (Hays) Stortenbecker, 99, Nebraska City, went to her heavenly home on Sunday, March 15, 2020, in Lincoln
Janice was born August 7, 1920, in Emerson, Iowa, to Ira Franklin Hays and Minnie Loretta (Hays) Hays. She was married to Henry E. Stortenbecker, on Nov. 7, 1941, in Maryville, Mo.
Janice was a Homemaker, worked at the Pendleton woolen mill plant, and was a Methodist Church member for 80 years.
Janice was preceded in death by her husband and daughter Loretta Portz.  She is survived by daughters Susan Beaver (Bob) of Lincoln, Marsha Biaggi (Perry) of Nebraska City; sons, Henry (Linda) of Auburn, Wash., Michael (Sue) of Omaha, and Roger (Jan) of Lincoln; 10 grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews other relative and friends.
To her children, Janice taught lessons of gratitude and grace she learned during her long life. Janice reminisced fondly of her childhood in Silver City, Iowa, her family, friends, neighbors and her early morning paper route before school.
Though never judged in sanctioned competition, Janice baked the best pies.
In accordance with CDC Guidelines, a private family funeral service will be 11 a.m., Saturday, March 28, at Marshall Funeral Chapel with interment in Wyuka Cemetery in Nebraska City.  
Visitation will be open 1 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.  
In accordance with CDC and the State of Nebraska Covid-19 Guidelines, please stagger the time you come in for visitation to help keep the crowd size to 10 or fewer.  
Memorials are suggested to the First United Methodist Church of Nebraska City.
