The J. Sterling Morton statue currently in Washington, D.C, will make its home in Nebraska City later this year.
Members of the committee that will organize the homecoming effort were notified Jan. 24 that their proposal to bring the statue here was accepted by The Willa Cather National Statuary Hall Selection Committee.
Trevor Jones of History Nebraska noted that committee members were impressed with the statue committee’s proposal, adding it was comprehensive and well-designed. Fundraising efforts will be organized in the coming months. For now, The Friends of Arbor Lodge is overseeing donations to the statue relocation project.
Interested donors can send donations to 115 N. 10th St., Nebraska City, NE 68410 or visit The Friends of Arbor Lodge Facebook page and click on the fundraising link.
