The Syracuse Junior High Volleyball Team had a fantastic season! All three teams showed huge improvement, worked hard, and played as a team throughout the season to finish their overall season at 23-3.
The A Team finished their season 9-1. This is a hard working group of girls who were dedicated all season to improve to be successful on the court.
The A Team worked hard to come together and play as a team; and their greatest strength was their passing. The girls came together to win both the Elmwood Murdock Tournament and the Weeping Water Tournament.
In the Elmwood Murdock Tournament, the A Team defeated Elmwood-Murdock and Louisville. At the Weeping Water Tournament, they defeated Louisville and Weeping Water. Throughout the season, the A Team easily defeated most of their opponents; they only came up short against Lincoln Lutheran, who out-served them.
Serving was an issue throughout the season; they finished the season only serving 83%. Leading the team in serving was Lyndsay Engelbrecht, serving 90%, followed by Delainey Cast, serving 87%, and Jayden Meyer, serving 86%.
Delainey Cast led the team in ace serves with 50 on the season, followed by Rylee Seelhoff with 25 and Kadyn Sisco with 24. Their desire to never give up, to give it everything they had, and work together, resulted in an almost perfect season. The 8th graders finished their Junior High career 19-1.
The B team also had an outstanding season, finishing their season 8-1.
Among those wins, they were the Division B Weeping Water Champions, defeating Louisville and Weeping Water, both in two sets. The B Team also defeated Nebraska City Lourdes A Team this year.
The team’s only loss came to Lincoln Lutheran, where serving was an issue.
The B Team worked hard all season to improve on their serving, passing and being aggressive at the net. Leading the team in serving was Shannon Moerer, Addison Schubarth and Bobbi Mills, all serving 91%; Caidence Bader also helped the team, serving 90%. Bobbi Mills led the team in ace serves, with 30, followed by Hailey Kirchhoff and Addison Schubarth serving 19 aces. B Team improved tremendously this season on their fundamental skills, their ability to set up the ball and coming together and playing as a team.
The C Team worked hard all season to improve on their fundamental skills, especially serving. The C Team finished their season 6-1, with their only loss being to Weeping Water’s B Team at the Weeping Water Tournament, where they placed third. Olivia Leonard led the C Team in serving, serving 93% with 25 aces. Aselen Farley added another 20 aces to help her team. The C Team showed so much improvement throughout the season; their good passes allowed them to be able to set up the ball and execute at the net. Fantastic season Lady Rockets!
