The Pioneer girls' cross country team tied for 3rd place with 90 team points, but lost the tiebreaker to finish 4th in a 16 team meet at Clarinda on Tuesday, September 10.

Leading the Lady Pioneers was Chloe Schaulis with a time of, 23:21, and a 5th place medal.

Coach Schaulis said Chloe has been outstanding in all three meets this season and made a great effort on a tough and hilly course.

Elizabeth Luther placed 18th overall and won her first medal as a freshman with a time of, 27:10; Bayley Allgood placed 26th with a time of, 28:01; Ellie Higgins, 29:12; Katherine Luther, 30:40; Althea Gay, 32:45.

JV results: Caroline Gay ended with a seventh place medal and a time of, 33:09. Lilly Frields earned a ninth place medal and a time of, 34:48; Aspen Thurman finished with a time of, 35:46. “This was the best finish for the girls here in several years,” Schaulis said.

Boys results: Nebraska City boys’ placed 3rd with 104 points. The boys were led by James Kearney who placed third in a tough field with a time of, 18:22. Alex Rico ran his best race on the year with a time of, 20:06, and picked up a 12th place medal. Hayden Beccard, 28th place in a time of, 21:07.  Schaulis said Beccard continues to improve each week.

Jesse Rodriguez had his best outing on the year with a time of, 21:25. Eli Davis, 21:26; Jorge Loarca, 22:05; Colton Clark, 22:29.

JV boys results: Trevor Dostal placed 6th and a time of, 22:45; Hayden Schalk, 22:59 and scored a 7th place medal; Andreas Pro, 23:11, 11th place medal; Christian Tietz, 23:16, 12th place medal; Chase Brown, 24:56, 18th place medal. Ethan Graves, 25:28; Lucas Nielson, 25:39; Mark Wurtele, 26:06; William Ramage, 26:25; Marcus Bartman, 26:33; Cale Kreifel, 27:50; Jesus Flores, 28:20; Alex Hunger, 30:41.

Coach Schaulis said that this was the best overall team effort this year, especially on a tough course that provided hot and humid conditions. “Several runners met their goals today and many had a PR,” said Schaulis.

Middle School 1.5 mile race results: Clarissa Moyer, 13:55, 4th place medal; Malayna Madsen, 7th place, 14:27; Keira Bundy, 15:47, 14th place, Mason Houghton, 4th place medal, and a time of 11:38.

Nebraska City will be @ Bennington on Thursday, September 19 starting at 4:30 p.m.
