The Lourdes volleyball team and Falls City Sacred Heart competed in an exciting back and forth contest, as the Irish came away with a 3 to 2 victory on Thursday, August 23, at the Lourdes Central High School.

In the first set, the Irish came out fast and won 16-25.  Lourdes answered in the second set by winning 25-19.

The Lady Knights were trailing most of the third set, but battled back to tie things up at 19-19.  The Irish would eventually go on to take the third set 24-26.

Lourdes came out on fire in the fourth set and grabbed a quick 11-3 lead and would hang on to win 25-19, sending the contest into a final set, where the Irish won 11-15.

“The outcome isn’t what we wanted, but we competed with every ounce of energy we had,” Coach Michelle Kreifels said.  “On the sets that we won, we dominated that set.”

Elaina Madison and Jacey Kreifels were clicking throughout this match as Madison had 17 total kills and Kreifels added 33 assists.
In the fourth set, Coach Kreifels said that Libby Baumert really came out of her shell and had a nice game.  “Libby Baumert came alive in that fourth set and Addie DeFreece and Ainsley Esser, both had really good nights,” Kreifels said.  “I’m super proud of our showing tonight.”

Last season, serving seemed to be a hiccup for the Knights, and in this match-up, Lourdes really served the ball well as Kreifels and Emma Heng combined for 10 aces.  “I’m really proud of our serve right now, and now we just have to focus on the pass game as well,” Kreifels said.

Stats: Elaina Madison, 17 kills; Ainsley Esser, 10 kills, 17 digs; Libby Baumert, four kills; Addie DeFreece, four kills, 17 digs; Ivye Meyer, three kills, 12 digs, two aces; Emma Heng, 26 digs, four ace serves; Jacey Kreifels, 33 assists, 10 digs, and 6 ace serves.

Lourdes varsity will be back in action on Monday, August 27, at Fremont-Mills, beginning 6:30 pm.  JV starts at 5 pm.
