The Nebraska City juniors season came to an end after a 6-2 loss against Falls City during district action on Saturday, July 7, at Auburn.
The Post 8 juniors were able to take a 1-0 lead in the first inning when Clay Stovall hit a two out single. Max Chaney came up and drove a line drive single to left field. Adam Dia drilled an RBI single and NC had an early lead.
In the following innings, Falls City scored six unanswered runs.
Nebraska City tried to make a late surge in the fifth when Zac Albrecht hit into a fielder’s choice that scored Cameron Elshire, but unfortunately that’s all the closer NC would get as it’s season came to an end.
Hitting: Chaney, single, double; Braydon Betts, double; Elshire, single; Stovall, single; Dia, single; Evan Wehling, single.
RBI: Albrecht and Dia, one each.
Runs scored: Elshire and Stovall, one each.
Pitching: Chaney accepted the loss by allowing nine hits, six runs (three earned), three strikeouts, in 5.2 innings of work.
Elmwood-Murdock 8 NC juniors 5
In the first round of districts, Zac Albrecht was 2-for-3 with two singles and a run scored in the Nebraska City 8-5 loss on Friday, July 6, at Auburn.
Down 3 to 1 heading into the top of the third, NC had a productive inning as they scored three runs to take a 4-3 lead. Albrecht hit an infield single and Max Chaney walked. Adam Dia was hit by the pitch that loaded the bases. Evan Wehling made his way to the plate and drilled a double that knocked in two runs. Kyler Arthur hit a ground ball single that scored Dia and NC led by one run.
Nehawka was leading 8-4 heading into the top of the seventh. With Stovall at second, Chaney hit a single and NC cut into the lead, but regrettably that’s all NC could score as they lost 8-5 in the first round.
Pitching: Braydon Betts took the loss for NC. Betts allowed four runs, on seven hits, and struck out four, in 3.2 innings. Stovall came in for relief efforts and surrendered five hits, four runs (one earned), four strikeouts, in 2.1 innings.
Hitting: Albrecht, two singles; Wehling, double; Arthur and Chaney, one single each.
RBI: Wehling, two; Arthur and Chaney, one each.
Runs scored: Albrecht, Betts, Stovall, Dia, and Chaney, one each.
The Nebraska City juniors ended it’s season with a 7-16 record.
