Nebraska City Girls Soccer scooped up it's second win of the season as Selena Balquier and Brittni Watkins lead the way in the Pioneers 3-0 victory over the Conestoga Cougars on Thursday, March, 29 at Pioneer field.

Solid defense by both teams, left the scoreboard at zeros in the first half.

In the second half, the Pioneers started executing and scored three goals in ten minutes.
“Kaycee Driever was in the middle and had a phenomenal game,” Coach Kelly Schmidt said.  “She was able to switch fields for us and her foot work really helped us with several assists.”

With 30:31 on the clock, Kaycee Driever made a pass down field to Lindsey Booth and Booth was able to find Watkins for the first score of the game.

Less than five minutes later, Balquier was in the open field and blasted a kick that the Cougar goalie couldn’t handle to put the Pioneers up 2-0.

Isabella Denniston earned an assist as she kicked the ball over the Cougar defense and Balquier scored on the header for her second goal of the game.

With time winding down, the Cougars tried to end the shutout, but Pioneer goalie, Reagan Bassinger made a nice save to keep Conestoga off the scoreboard.

Coach Schmidt said that on the defensive side, Abbie Rhoades and Bethany Ramage were able to finish off a lot of their defensive plays to get it back up to the mids which was a game changer.

The Pioneers will be back in action on Monday, April 2 at Blair beginning at 6:15 p.m.
