Pioneer FB wraps season at Auburn

The Pioneer football team wrapped up a 1-8 campaign on Friday, Oct. 25, with a 53-0 loss at the hands of Auburn, which finished the season at 8-1. The Bulldogs only loss of the season came at the hands of Ashland-Greenwood.

Nebraska City was coming off its lone win of the season, a 21-7 decision at Fairbury. The Pioneers played two other close games this season with a 20-point performance in a loss to Wilber-Clatonia and a 22-14 decision against Falls City that came down to the game’s final minutes.

Pioneers wrap volleyball regular season

The Nebraska City Pioneer volleyball team wrapped up a 2-25 regular season last week in a three-set loss against Beatrice, 10-18. Scores from the match were 25-8, 25-23, and 25-19. Nebraska City was scheduled to compete at the Class B-4 subdistrict tournament on Tuesday, Oct. 29, at Waverly High School.

NCHS runner competes at State CC

Nebraska City’s Jonathan Rico-Avalos ran a time of 18:11.5 to finish 64th out of 89 runners in the Nebraska School Activities Association Class B Boys’ State Cross Country Championships at the Kearney Country Club on Friday, Oct. 25.

Braden Lofquest of Gretna East was the first-place runner in a time of 14:14.6.

Lincoln Pius X took first place as a team for Class B boys’ race. Other top five teams, in order, were Hastings, Omaha Skutt, Beatrice and Gretna.
