Pioneer boys’ wrestling sends five to state

Five Pioneer boys wrestlers qualified for the NSAA Individual State Wrestling Championships during action at the Class B District 3 tournament at Blair on Saturday, Feb. 15.

Noah Boyer, 106 pounds, went 4-0 at districts and won his weight bracket. He won by pin in the first round and quarterfinal round, then won by major decision in the semifinals and topped Ethan Beed of Aurora, 15-11, in the district championship match.

Other qualifiers for state were Dominick Sterling, 120, fourth place; Tony Hartman, 126, fourth place; Malikye Dovel, 138, fourth place; and Callen Schnitzer, 157, fourth place.

Also wrestling for the Pioneers were Oscar Gonzalez, 113; Trevor Flash, 132; Brock Weddle, 144; Alec Schnitzer, 150; Jayden Adams, 165; Dawson Thorne, 175; and Dane Lyons, 190.

In terms of the team race, York scored 187 points to win the district championship. Nebraska City finished in eighth place. There were 12 teams.
