Ed Rains, 73, of Windsor, Mo., died Tuesday evening, Jan. 19, 2021, at his home in Windsor surrounded by his family.
He was born Dec. 28, 1947, in Nebraska City, the son of Albert Bud Rains and Mable Edith (Skillett) Rains. On Feb. 2, 1968, he married Donna F. Morrison in Nebraska City and she survives of the home.
After high school, Ed served in the United States Army. He was a painter for many years. When he and Donna moved to Windsor, they brought with them their love for the Nebraska Cornhuskers. During college football season, Saturday afternoons bought family gatherings and touch down celebrations. He also was an avid fisherman, participated in fishing tournaments, horseshoe tournaments, liked to hunt mushrooms, play poker, and play pool. He cherished his family.
In addition to his wife Donna, survivors include three children, Dirk Rains (Aimee), Lincoln, Nebr., Mark Rains (Amy), Windsor, Mo., and Wendy Williams, Lincoln, Nebr.; six grandchildren, Colin, Alison (Jake), Kayla (Steven), Jake (Shyanna), Brandon, and Michael; two great-grandchildren, Paige and Beau; two sisters, Charlotte O’Bryan, Nebraska City.; Mary Lou Sanchez, Sun Lakes, Ariz.; a sister-in-law, Janice Dawson, Nebraska City; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Larry “Butch” Rains.
Memorial services with military honors will be 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 30, 2021, at the Hadley Funeral Home, Windsor, with Pastor Pete Hill officiating.
