Darleen J. Teten, age 87 of Elkhorn, passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 13, 2021, at Fremont Methodist Medical Center in Fremont.
Darleen was born June 7, 1933, on the family farm south of Johnson. Her parents were Otto and Alma (Stutheit) Boeck. She was a member of the Hickory Grove Lutheran Church and was very active in Luther League. She graduated from Auburn High School with the class of 1950 and then studied at Peru State College where she received her teaching degree. She began her teaching career in a one room school house west of Auburn and later taught in Nebraska City.
On Oct. 24, 1954, Darleen was united in marriage to Richard L. Teten at the Hickory Grove Lutheran Church in Auburn, and to this union five children were born: Mark, Vicki, Sherri, Brett and Tanith. They lived in Auburn and Nebraska City before moving to Elkhorn. Darleen was active in her community where she was a member of the Elkhorn Hills United Methodist Church, Elkhorn Women’s Club, Welcome Wagon, and the PTA. She was also a substitute teacher for many years.
Those left to cherish her memory include her children: Mark Teten and wife Donna of Yutan, Nebr., Vicki Sleder of Omaha, Sherri Arnett and husband Jon of Arlington, Nebr., Brett Teten and wife Amy of Kirksville, Mo., and Tanith Wilson and husband Scott of Bennington, Nebr.; 15 grandchildren: Sarah Gleeson (Tim), Carlie Malesa (Josh), Ehren Teten (Nikki), Frank Sleder, Jr, Angelique Sleder, Steven Sleder, Jake Arnett, Ryan Arnett, Sam Arnett, Cade Arnett, Nolan Teten, Avery Teten, Ben Wilson, Taylor Wilson and Zac Wilson; nine great-grandchildren: Matthew, Wyatt, Cooper, Emma and Dylan Gleeson; Emily, Elijah, Kyler and Kash Malesa, other family and friends.
Darleen was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Richard Teten on Nov. 10, 2016, and her siblings: LaVerne Boeck and Shirley Clobes.
A Funeral Service was to be Monday, Jan. 18, 2021, at 2 p.m. at Gude Mortuary in Nebraska City. Visitation was to be prior to the service from 1 to 2 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be at St. James Lutheran “Long Branch” Cemetery by Johnson, following the services.
