Iona May “Shorty” Pieper, age 94 of Lincoln, formerly of Nebraska City, died Sept. 21, 2020, at the Sumner Place in Lincoln. Iona was born Oct. 19, 1925, near Burr, the daughter of Fred and Ida (Steinkuhler) Eisenhauer.
Living in and near Burr and Syracuse in her early years, Iona married William D. “Bill” Pieper Aug. 17, 1947, and they eventually moved their young family to Nebraska City where they lived the majority of their lives.
She worked many years for the Lincoln Telephone and Telegraph Company in Nebraska City before retiring.
In recent years she had resided in Lincoln.
Iona is survived by her daughter, Linda Haith of Lincoln; son and daughter-in-law, Wes and Geri Pieper of Boerne, Texas; son and daughter-in-law, Stan and Kay Pieper of Omaha; brother Joy Eisenhauer of Wisconsin; several grandchildren; great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sister, Lucille Panko; brother, Delton Eisenhauer; and sister, Mavis Mohlman. The family thanks the staff at Sumner Place in Lincoln for the excellent care they gave Iona, especially during her final days.
There will be no viewing or visitations. Private family inurnment services will be held at a later date at the Hope Lutheran Cemetery near Burr. She will be buried next to her husband Bill. A celebration of life gathering for family and friends is expected to be scheduled at a future date. Memorials are suggested to the Veteran’s Memorial Building Project.
