Raymond Dean Wright, Jr.

Raymond Dean Wright, Jr.,was born to Raymond D. Wright and Phyllis E. (Whitman) Wright on December 18, 1942, in Guthrie Center, Iowa. He graduated from Guthrie Center High School in 1961, the State College of Iowa in 1966, and Michigan State University in 1970. He married Ronna Jene Hobbs on January 28, 1967. They became the parents of a daughter, Bethanie, in 1968 and a son, Christopher, in 1971. Ray taught driver's education in the Waterloo Community Schools for ten years. He went on to become the first personnel manager for the City of Cedar Falls in 1976. He was the human resources manager in New Hampton at the Sara Lee Bakery Company from 1980-1989. Ray was employed as the human resources manager for American Meter Company in Nebraska City, Nebraska, from 1989 to his retirement in 2005. Ray and Ronna moved to Council Bluffs where Ray taught driver's education and drove for U-Haul part-time while his health permitted. He died on July 5, 2021, surrounded by his family at Immanuel Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska.

Ray was an active member of churches where he lived throughout the years, the most recent of which was St. John's United Church of Christ in Council Bluffs. He was a very devoted husband, father and grandfather. Along with cherished time spent with his family, his passions in life were grilling, hunting, fishing, golfing, reading, singing with the Nebraska City Apple Corps and various church choirs, and cheering for the Green Bay Packers, the Los Angeles Dodgers, and the Iowa Hawkeyes.

He was preceded in death by his parents, mother and father-in-law (Warren and Keith Hobbs) and brother-in-law, Gerald Mueller. Survivors include: his wife of almost 54 ½ years, Ronna; his daughter Bethanie (John) Dolnicek and Micah of Lawrence, NE; his son Christopher (Mandy) Wright and children of Dakota Dunes, SD; brother David (Ann) Wright of Asheville, NC; sister-in-law Cathy Mueller and brother-in-law Brian (Marcell) Hobbs both of Kingsley; nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Services will begin at 2 pm on Friday, July 16, 2021, at Hoy Kilnoski Funeral Home in Council Bluffs. Burial will be in Arlington Cemetery in Moville at a later date. Memorials may be directed to the family.
