Joyce M. Voyles, age 77, of Syracuse, formerly of Nebraska City passed away on Saturday, Oct. 27, 2018, at the Good Samaritan Society in Syracuse.  She had resided at Good Sam since December of 2017 due to failing health.
Joyce was born on May 21, 1941, in Nebraska City; the daughter of Medford and June (Bates) James.  She grew up and attended school in Nebraska City, graduating from Nebraska City High School.
On Jan. 30, 1960, she was united in marriage to Elmer Voyles in Nebraska City.
Joyce worked at various businesses in Nebraska City including American Meter, the Nebraska City Manor, Duff’s Friendship Villa and most recently Alco.  She was a member of the Nebraska Church of Christ and the Eagles Auxiliary.
Joyce is survived by a son Brian Voyles of Lincoln; long-time family friend Patty Sedoris of Lincoln; one grandchild Rachel Voyles; three sisters: Beverly Catlett (Keith) of Hamburg, Iowa; Marylou McClane of Nebraska City and Kathy Day (Jason) of Hastings, Iowa; other family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Elmer on Dec. 9, 2009, her son, Mitchell Voyles on March 9, 2015, a sister and three brothers.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. was to be Friday, Nov. 2, at Gude Mortuary in Nebraska City with Pastor John Telgren officiating.  Burial will follow at Wyuka Cemetery in Nebraska City.
The family was to greet friends from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 1, at the mortuary.
In lieu of flowers, a scholarship fund is being established for her granddaughter Rachel.
