Merle H. Meyer, age 92 of rural Nehawka, passed away on Sept. 11, 2018, at his home.
Merle Henry Meyer was born on Nov. 17, 1925, near Nehawka; the son of George and Theresa (Sand) Meyer.  
He attended school and graduated from Avoca High School with the Class of 1943.  
He entered the United States Army on May 5, 1945. and proudly served his country during World War II.  He was honorably discharged on December 9, 1946.
On Aug. 21, 1947, Merle was united in marriage to Oqual Marie Hunker at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Elmwood.  She preceded him in death on Dec. 25, 2010.
Merle was a life-long farmer; a job he truly loved.  He was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church near Avoca, the American Legion and the Knights of Columbus..
He is survived by his children: Jody LaMontagne and husband Dave of Bellevue; Marley Neddenriep and husband Terry of Lincoln; Mark Meyer and wife Marlene of Nehawka; Steve Meyer and wife Jodie of Nebraska City and Kris Meyer of Lincoln; 13 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren; brothers.
Jim Meyer and wife Joan of Avoca, and Dick Meyer and wife Luella of Weeping Water; numerous nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
In addition to his wife Oqual, Merle was preceded in death by his parents, two infant sons:  Daniel Merle and David Merle; a stillborn daughter, grandson Anthony Scott Rohlfs, one sister and six brothers.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday (9/15) at 10 a.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church near Avoca; burial will follow in the church cemetery with military honors conducted by the Army National Guard Funeral Honors Detail.  
A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Friday (9/14) at Holy Trinity Church preceded by the family greeting friends from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Remembrances may be left at Gude Mortuary in Nebraska City is in charge of arrangements.
