Richard L. Vanderwal, age 76, of Nebraska City passed away on June 21, 2018, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Nebraska City.
He was born on Feb. 14, 1942, in Pipestone, Minn.; the son of Dick and Clara (Zeinstra) Vanderwal.  He attended school in Pipestone and graduated in 1960 from Pipestone High School.
After high school,  he began working for Schwan’s as a sales representative; a job that brought him to Nebraska City.
On May 5, 1981, Richard was united in marriage to Evette K. Housh in Nebraska City.  
He also worked at Rowe Motor Company and Freshman Ford in Nebraska City as well as owning and operating the Wooden Nickel Bar in Nebraska City until his retirement.
Richard is survived by his wife Evette Vanderwal of Nebraska City; children:  Lauri Vanderwal of Bellevue, Randy Vanderwal and wife Allison of Omaha, and Chad Housh and wife Amy of Auburn; five grandchildren, four siblings: Fred Vanderwal and wife Henrietta of Pipestone, Minn., Clifford Vanderwal and wife Betty of Seal Beach, Calif., Dorothy Paap of Riverside, Calif. and Jane Vanderwal of Edina, Minn.; other family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Gerrit and Marty, and sisters: Della, Alice, Betty and Terry..
Funeral Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, June 27, at Gude Mortuary in Nebraska City with Pastor Dorothea Fairbanks officiating.  Burial will follow at Wyuka Cemetery in Nebraska City.
Visitation is open  Tuesday  from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the mortuary.
