Kathleen “Kay” Eleanor Staack, 91, passed away with her family by her side on Tuesday, May 9, 2017 in Syracuse, NE.

Kay was born in Omaha, NE to Irven and Matilda (Heebner) Markland of Weeping Water, NE on September 26, 1925. She graduated from Weeping Water High School in 1943 and went to business school at Lincoln School of Commerce. She met Ernest “Ernie” Staack, a decorated WWII veteran, and the two were married on October 6, 1946 in the First Congregational Church in Weeping Water. They shared nearly 65 joyful years together, making their home in Syracuse, NE where they raised their two daughters, Linda and Diana. In 1952 Kay and Ernie purchased Tonsing Furniture in Syracuse and changed the name to Staack Furniture. They operated the business until their retirement in 1977. The store still proudly bears the Staack name.

Kay was active in several Bridge clubs, the Extension Club and was the Treasurer of the United Methodist Church of Syracuse for many years. Kay and Ernie spent their golden years traveling the world and enjoyed spending the winters in Mesa, AZ. Their grandkids were regulars at the house for dinner and card games. Perhaps their favorite pastime was watching and supporting their grandchildren’s sports and activities, which Kay faithfully documented in scrapbooks. Kay leaves her family with hearts full of beautiful memories and her coveted recipes for dressing and deviled eggs.

Kay is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Don Parde; daughter, Diana Simmons; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Gene and Joann Staack; brother-in-law, Orville Staack; grandchildren and step-grandchildren: Michelle (Rossitto) Wachter and husband, Russ; Christine (Rossitto) Fisher and husband, Randy; Brian Rossitto and wife, Amy; Kevin Parde and wife, Cherine; Ken Parde and wife, Vicki; Kim (Parde) Bellinder and husband, Jerry; Michele (Simmons) Summers and husband, Shawn; Kenny Simmons and wife, Carolyn; 19 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
