R. Duane Grunwald, age 87 of Union died Feb. 23, 2017, at Bryan LGH East Medical Center in Lincoln.   He was born Aug. 2, 1929 in Nebraska City, the son of Robert Joseph and Daisy Marie (Martin) Grunwald.  
Duane lived in Union most of his life and served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. Duane married Nola Keene Dec. 31, 1971, in Weeping Water.  
He worked at the Kellogg’s Company in Omaha for 25 years before retiring in 1994. Duane was a member of the Robert Bernard Roddy American Legion Post No. 235 in Union and was a former member of the Union United Methodist Church.  
He loved spending time shopping and attending car shows.  He also loved tractors and once worked on building a dune buggy, but was never able to finish it.
Survivors include his wife Nola of Union; daughter, Chris Keene of Union; granddaughter, Alena Keene – Carlson and husband Michael of San Antonio, Texas; sister, Phyllis Gausman of Fairbury; cousins, Laverne Crunk and Don Martin, both of Nebraska City; nieces and nephew, Julie, Joni and Jeff; many other relatives and friends.  
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother in law, Bob Gausman.
Funeral services were to be 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 28, at Marshall Funeral Chapel in Nebraska City with burial in the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery near Nehawka. Visitations were to be 1 to 8 p.m. Monday at Marshall Funeral Chapel in Nebraska City with the family greeting friends from 5 to 7 p.m.
