Bernard J. “Bernie” Kreifels, age 81, of Nebraska City passed away early Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2016, at the Ambassador in Nebraska City.
Bernard Joseph Kreifels was born on July 15, 1935, at the family farm home near Paul; the youngest child of Vincent John and Marie Valentine (Christen) Kreifels.  
He attended country school and later the Dunbar High School where he graduated with the class of 1952.  
Bernie served in the Nebraska National Guard for some six years.
Bernie was a farmer his entire life.
He began farming as a young boy and continued the job he dearly loved until his health began to fail.  He was a long-time member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church near Paul.
 He is survived by his three siblings:  David F. Kreifels, Anna Marie White and husband Paul and Esther Wyant all of rural Nebraska City; numerous nieces, nephews and other family and friends.
Bernie was preceded in death by his parents and a sister Florence Miller.
 A Funeral Mass was to be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 30, 2016, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church near Paul, with Fr. Christopher Miller celebrating the Mass.  
A Rosary was to be recited at 10:30 a.m. Friday prior to the services at the church.  Burial was to follow in the church cemetery.
The casket was to remain closed at the request of the family.
Memorials may be given to Lourdes Central Catholic School or St. Jude’s Hospital.
Remembrances may be left at Gude Mortuary in Nebraska City is in charge of arrangements.
