William “Bill” J. Carroll, age 86 of Nebraska City passed away on Monday, August 8, 2016 at his home.

Bill was born on September 8, 1929 in Santa Barbara, CA; the son of Vincent Patrick and Loretta Mary (Rogers) Carroll.  His family later moved to Creighton, NE where Bill was raised and where he graduated from St. Ludgers High School in 1947.

He entered the United States Air Force on February 18, 1948 and proudly served his country during the Korean War.  He was honorably discharged on February 17, 1952.  After his service time, he continued his education at pharmacy school at Creighton University, where he received his Doctor of Pharmacy in 1957.  Bill worked as a Pharmacist at Jessup’s Drug Store in Nebraska City from 1959 to 1996, when he retired.

Bill was united in marriage to Marjorie Jean Ohnmacht on April 21, 1952 at St. Benedict’s Catholic Church in Nebr. City and to this union four children were born:  Catherine, Dennis, Susan, and Colleen.  He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and was very active in the Nebraska City community.  He belonged to the Elks, the American Legion and was a 50 year member of Rotary.  Bill served on the Kimmel Foundation, the Otoe County National Bank Board, St. Mary’s Hospital Board and also served two terms as the Finance Commissioner for Nebraska City.  He was also a past president of the Nebraska State Pharmaceutical Board.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 64 years, Marjorie Carroll of Nebr. City; four children:  Catherine Thomas and husband Bill of Nebr. City; Dennis Carroll and wife Diane of Grand Island, NE, Susan Wages and husband Tom of Omaha, NE and Colleen Barrett and husband Mervin of Nebr. City; six grandchildren:  Christy Briley and husband Kevin of Percival, IA; Alan Thomas and wife Vanessa of Tucson, AZ; Nicole Knight and husband Matt of Honolulu, HI; Lindsey VanStelton and husband Jeff of McCook, NE; Amy Barrett of Nebr. City and Daniel Barrett of Nebr. City; eight great-grandchildren:  Abby, Alaina, Lauren, Ryan, Ethan, Aubrey, Max and Emma; siblings:  Jim Carroll and wife Marilyn of Columbus, NE and Pat Carroll and wife Gloria of Omaha, NE; nieces and nephews; caregiver Ana Davis of Nebr. City; other family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister Kathleen Vail and infant sister Geraldine.




Memorials may be given to Lourdes Central Catholic School in Nebr. City.
