An Oct. 2 preliminary hearing has been set in the case of a Nebraska City man who has been charged with two counts of first-degree assault, two counts of use of a deadly weapon to commit a felony, and failure to stop and render aid after an accident.

Emmanuel Lee Maxwell, 27, was arrested Sept. 8 after the Nebraska City Police Department investigated an accident in the parking lot of the Eagles Club in the 600 block of 1st Corso.

Maxwell is accused of hitting Allen Smith with a vehicle, stabbing Smith with a knife, and leaving the accident scene.
