Dr. Tom Osborne will announce an exciting contest to promote the recruitment of more TeamMates mentors for youth across the Midwest. The announcement will be Friday, July 26 at 3 PM on the interior concourse by Gate 20 in East Memorial Stadium (enter Gate 20 by Devaney statue).
The TeamMates Back to School Challenge will take place Aug. 1 to Sept. 1. This campaign will benefit students across the almost 170 school districts TeamMates supports across Nebraska, Iowa, Kansas, South Dakota, and Wyoming. Any person who is eligible to mentor and applies through teammates.org between Aug. 1 to Sept. 1 will be entered in a drawing to win one of three exciting prizes.
Last year, the Back to School Challenge ran from Aug. 1 to Nov. 30, bringing in more than 1,300 mentors for students across the Midwest. TeamMates decided to shorten the time frame in order to offer a special prize that will be announced at the press conference.
“Every child can benefit from a mentor, and we have thousands of young people waiting across our program,” said TeamMates Executive Director Sarah Waldman. “Our goal this year is to serve over 11,000 students.”
During the 2018-2019 school year, TeamMates served more than 10,000 youth in close to 170 communities. The school-based program provides mentors to students from all backgrounds and lifestyles.  Mentors meet with their mentees one-on-one in school, once a week, during the academic year.
