Roof repairs to Nebraska City High School and Nebraska City Middle School, along with a carpet replacement at Hayward Elementary, are among the summer projects for Nebraska City Public Schools.
The NCPS board approved a contract with Galt Construction from Mobile, Ala., to repair two roof sections at the high school and one at the middle school.
The board also approved a contract with Heartland Roofing to repair walls at Northside Elementary and the middle school.
Board members also approved a contract with Esser Flooring for the replacement of the third-grade classroom and hallway carpet in Hayward.
Superintendent Dr. Jeffrey Edwards said that the Kimmel Foundation  will fund the replacement of the chairs and stage curtains in the high school auditorium at a cost of approximately $141,000.
Details and scheduling of the chair replacement are yet to be worked out.
During the meeting, board members also
Approved the hiring of an interim superintendent for the 2019-2020 school year;
Approved the hiring of Makenzie Bishop to teach fourth grade and Maddie Kohrs to teach fifth grade special education for the coming school year;
Accepted the resignation of Kelli Jensen at the end of the school year; and
Approved the graduation list for Nebraska City High School.
The board is hosting a special meeting tonight (April 12) at 5 p.m.
The next regular board meeting is scheduled to take place at 6 p.m. Monday, May 13, at the district office, 1700 14th Ave.
