The Henderson County, Illinois, Steering Committee is starting to update the region’s plan for mitigating the effects of natural and manmade hazards.

The first step is gathering data, and to that end residents in Henderson County are asked to complete a survey on their knowledge of and risk from natural hazards.

According to University of Illinois Extension educator Carrie McKillip, who is facilitating the plan update, this is a crucial part of the process.

“We first did this survey in 2009 when the flood of 2008 was fresh in everyone’s mind. By using the same questions, we can compare responses and see where the community is concerning awareness and preparedness.

The survey can be completed by going to https://go.illinois.edu/HMSurvey.

Paper copies of the survey are available at the Extension Office in Stronghurst, or by contacting Cindy Brown, Henderson County Emergency Manager at (309) 867-2780. The survey will remain open until April 30, and the results will be summarized in the Hazard Mitigation Plan update.
