The Nebraska City Rotary Club learned a bit about the ongoing Community Prosperity Initiative at its meeting Wednesday, Jan. 30.
Lisa Chaney, representing the Better Together coalition of county social services organizations, presented an overview of the group’s services.
Better Together’s mission is to serve as the catalyst for growing intentional relationships, as well as actively seeking the collective voice and wisdom of all community members, said Chaney.
One of the coalition’s goals is to determine how to work more efficiently to benefit Otoe County families, she said.
“Most social services organizations are working in isolation,” said Chaney. “How do we bring them together?”
Better Together has been the recipient of grant money from the Nebraska Children and Families Foundation, said Chaney.
Some of the money has been used to pay consultant Lea Ann Johnson to visit Nebraska City regularly to help the group .
Chaney said the Better Together steering committee joined with the Community Prosperity Initiative in 2018.
The steering committee has met regularly since March 2018, she said, and the group has created opportunities to bring the different groups together, either in the Partners for Otoe County Office on North 9th Street or in meetings.
The Nebraska City Rotary Club meets at noon Wednesdays at the Eagles Club, 600 1st Corso. Guests pay $9 for lunch.
