The Lourdes Central Knights Volleyball team won three games during pool play action, and placed second overall on Saturday, September 22, at Axtell, KS.
Lourdes entered this contest with the No. 8 seed and defeated Frankfurt who was the No. 1 seed; 25-18, 22-25, 25-19. Ainsley Esser had a career high in kills with 14; Gina McGowen, 11; Elaina Madison; seven. Jacey Kreifels added 20 assists and 20 digs.
In their second pool play contest, the Knights lost to Diller Odell 7-25, 15-25.
The Knights immediately bounced back against Valley Heights, KS and won, 23-25, 25-14, 25-16. Elaina Madison led in kills with 10 and Esser added nine. Kreifels led in assists with 20.
During the first round of the championship bracket, Lourdes defeated Falls City Sacred Heart by scores of 25-16, 22-25, 25-16. Madison contributed 10 kills and Kreifels added 27 assists.
In the finals match, the Knights lost again to Diller Odell, but this time around, Lourdes were more confident and competed hard. “We made fewer errors and really gave them a good match,” Coach Michelle Kreifels said. “The girls just played with a sense of urgency and were communicating better and gelling better after that initial loss.” Esser added four kills; Baumert and McGowen, three each; Madison, two; Addie DeFreece, one. Emma Heng had nine total digs.
Lourdes will be in tournament action on Saturday, September 29, at Johnson County Central, starting at 9 a.m.
