Nebraska City Food Pantry Can Care-A-Van coming June 9

Press Release

The Nebraska City Food Pantry Can Care-A-Van will be held Monday, June 9, 2025. It will be held in conjunction with the KOLN TV Channel 10/11 Can Care-A-Van.

This year marks the 38th anniversary of the 10/11 Can Care-A-Van, which has been helping to feed Nebraskans since 1988.

On June 9th Brad Anderson from 10/11 News will be helping collect donations for the Nebraska City food pantry by broadcasting from the food pantry site at the First United Methodist Church.

Despite many changes over the past three decades hunger has persisted in our communities. This need has motivated Nebraskans to come out year after year to help stock the shelves of their local food pantries.

The Nebraska City goal is to collect 10,000 pounds of food. All food and money collected at the collection sites will stay in Nebraska City.

Non-perishable food and toiletry items as well as monetary donations will be collected. Each dollar donated counts as 2 pounds of food.

The collection sites will be the First United Methodist Church at 1023 First Avenue, the Dollar Fresh store at 1018 South 11th Street, Fareway at 1738 South 11th Street, and Walmart at 2101 South 11th Street, all located in Nebraska City.

The collection times are 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Community Partners helping with the Can Care-A-Van will be the Nebraska City Rescue Squad, which will be stuffing an ambulance at Walmart, and Arbor Bank and State Farm Insurance and Financial Services, which will be manning the Dollar Fresh collection site. The food pantry volunteers will be collecting groceries and monetary donations at Fareway.

Items especially needed for the food pantry are peanut butter and jelly, canned fruits, cereal, soup and crackers, canned vegetables, tuna, spaghetti and sauce, ramen noodles, toilet paper, tooth paste, laundry detergent and bath soap.

The Nebraska City Food Pantry is open twice a month on Monday afternoons from 3 to 5 p.m. to distribute food.

The Food Pantry also provides all the food for the Nebraska City Public School Friday Back Pack Program. This program sends back packs of food home with children on Friday so children have food over the weekend.

Individuals and organizations desiring more information about the Nebraska City Food Pantry may call the First United Methodist Church at 402-873-3821. The Food Pantry is housed at the Methodist Church.

Food and monetary donations can also be left at the church any time the building is open.

The Food Pantry is supported entirely by community donations and is staffed entirely by community volunteers.
