Shari Whitehead, who is retiring from Nebraska City Public Schools, spoke to a gathering of family and friends ahead of the May regular board of education meeting. Whitehead, who began her teaching career in Nebraska City in 2002 as a fifth-grade teacher, thanked the board for the opportunity at "one of the best times of my life." She will resume her teaching career this fall in Yankton, S.D., as a fifth-grade teacher.
