NCPS announces new teachers

Nebraska City Public Schools would like to welcome the following new teachers to the district for 2025-2026.

Brittany Andersen – Northside Elementary second grade. Ms. Andersen comes to us from Omaha Public Schools with three years of teaching experience. She received her bachelor’s of elementary education from Midland University.

Leigh Calfee – Middle School English language arts. Ms. Calfee is returning to Nebraska City Public Schools as the eighth-grade ELA teacher, and we are excited to welcome her back. She graduated from Peru State College.

Nicole Griepenstroh – Northside Elementary kindergarten. Ms. Griepenstroh has served as a paraeducator at Northside Elementary for the past 11 years. She received her bachelor’s degree from Doane University and is currently working on completing her master’s in elementary education.

Bridget Guiney – High School math. Ms. Guiney recently moved to Nebraska from Washington. She holds a master’s in teaching from Washington University and has served the past year as a substitute teacher for Nebraska City Public Schools.

Topanga Hawks – Northside Elementary second grade. Mrs. Hawks is a recent UNL graduate and has been substitute teaching at Elmwood-Murdock Elementary.

David Hellman – Hayward Elementary and High School Librarian. Mr. Hellman comes to us from western Nebraska, where he has 17 years of teaching experience. He graduated from Wesleyan University and received a master’s in secondary education-library science concentration from UNO.

Emily Johnson – Northside Elementary kindergarten. Ms. Johnson comes to us from Conestoga Public Schools with four years of teaching experience. She completed her student teaching at Northside Elementary and graduated from Peru State College with a bachelor’s in elementary and early childhood education and a master’s in curriculum and instruction.

Tara Packer – Elementary Impact and special education. Ms. Packer previously served as a paraeducator for the Impact Program and has 10 years of teaching experience with a master’s in special education.

Laura Patton – Hayward Elementary life skills. Ms. Patton comes to us from Omaha Public Schools with 30 years of teaching experience. She graduated from UNL and received her master’s with an endorsement in learning disabilities from UNO.

Nate Rapp – High School physical education. Mr. Rapp graduated from Simpson College with a bachelor’s degree in health and exercise science. He recently decided to pursue a teaching career in secondary education.

Brett Soderlund – Northside Elementary second grade. Mr. Soderlund is a Peru State College graduate, completing his student teaching at Northside Elementary and also served as a substitute teacher at Nebraska City Public Schools.

Tiffany Walker – Middle School special education. Ms. Walker comes to us from the Nebraska City Area Economic Development Corporation as the early childhood community coordinator. She completed her master’s degree in elementary education and special education.
