During its Aug. 4 regular meeting, the Nebraska City City Council approved requests for Nebraska City Growth Fund from a Norfolk restaurant developer and the Nebraska City Area Economic Development Corporation (NCAEDC).
Sam Nixon of Nixon Enterprise LLC requested $125,000 from the fund to help build a 3,600 square-foot development at 2124 S. 11th St. The completed building would house a Jimmy Johns restaurant and another commercial tenant that has yet to be determined.
Nixon, who has built seven other Jimmy Johns restaurants in Nebraska, said he plans to break ground in April 2026 and open for business in late fall of next year. He opened his first Jimmy Johns 20 years ago, he said, after earning his business management degree from the University of Nebraska, Kearney.
Plans call for six to 10 full-time employees and 10 to 15 part-time employees, said Nixon.
Lisa Walker, executive director of NCAEDC, requested $11,000 from the fund to complete a housing study of Otoe County. She said NCAEDC has received $10,000 from the Otoe County KENO Fund to help pay for the expanded countywide study.
The next regularly scheduled Nebraska City City Council meeting is set for 6 p.m. Monday, Aug. 18, in the Gary White Memorial Room/Council Chambers of the Rowe Memorial Public Safety Complex, 1518 Central Ave.
