The Nebraska City City Council approved a 7 percent increase in garbage collection fees for American Recycling and Sanitation.

Brian Kelly, president of American Recycling and Sanitation, said his company has seen landfill costs rise last year and this year.

This year’s increase, coupled with continuing cost increases for employee wages and benefits, fuel, and equipment, forced the company to change its service rates, he said.

Kelly requested that the rate increase go into effect on Sept. 1 for both residential and commercial customers.
