MJPL hosting News-Press photo exhibit this month

Press Release

“The Nebraska City News-Press: Past, Present and Future” is the exhibit for December at the Morton-James Public Library’s Kimmel Gallery. The exhibit will run through December 28 and is accessible during the regular Library hours.

Reporter Julie Davis and Editor Kirt Manion have curated a collection of the history of The Nebraska City News-Press and its community through photos and articles. The exhibit will also contain a glimpse into what the future holds for the newspaper.

Davis received her first camera, a Kodak Hawkeye Instamatic, in the early 1970s. From that humble beginning, her interest in photography developed. Her father gave her a Canon AE-1 for her 16th birthday, seeing that journalism was in her future. Her photos have appeared in newspapers, magazines, books, and on websites for the past 40 years.

Manion, a graduate of Chadron State College, began his career in journalism in the late 90s as a reporter for the Kimball Observer. He joined the staff at the Nebraska City News-Press on Nov. 30, 1998, taking the role of sports editor, and has been chronicling highlights of southeast Nebraska high school sports ever since. He currently serves as the editor of the News-Press.

The Morton-James Public Library is located at 923 1st Corso. Hours are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday. During December, the Library will close from noon to 1 p.m. Monday through Friday.
