Lanny J. Burr

Center in Lincoln, NE. Lanny John Burr was born on January 25, 1960, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Nebraska City, NE; the son of Robert A. and Ruth Ann (Heng) Burr. He graduated Syracuse-Dunbar- Avoca High School with the Class of 1978. He farmed with his Dad and brother, and was a member of Young Farmers. He later attended Peru State College from 1985 to 1987 where he received a degree in Accounting. He passed the exam to become a Certified Public Accountant in 1987.

Over the years, Lanny worked in Goodland, KS, Gretna, NE, Nebr. City and Syracuse. He had worked at Encore, American Meter and Vanderveen and Goracke. In October of 2004, Lanny began his own CPA firm; Burr and Associates in Syracuse. Lanny was very involved with the Dunbar and Syracuse communities where he was a member of the Dunbar Volunteer Fire Department for 18 years and served on the Syracuse Hospital Board. He also coached many of his boys’ sports teams over the years. On July 14, 2007, he was united in marriage to Mary L. Riopel in Cottage Grove, MN.

Lanny is survived by his wife Mary Burr of Syracuse, NE; children: Eric Burr (Chelsey) of Riverside, CO and their children Gabbie and Ayven; Nathan Burr (Sarah) of Dunbar, NE and their children Olivia and Anna; Krista Wolkerstorfer of Elkhorn, NE and her daughter Macey; Timothy Wolkerstorfer of St. Paul, MN and his children Vincent, Vitaley and Dominic; siblings: Robert Burr (Connie) of Dunbar, NE, Dianne Kreifels (David Jr.) of Dunbar, NE and Sharon Kerr of Gretna, NE; nieces, nephews, other family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Ruth Ann Burr.

A Funeral Mass will be held 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 19, 2022 at St. Paulinus Catholic Church in Syracuse, NE with Fr. Ryan Salisbury officiating. Burial will follow at Park Hill Cemetery in Syracuse. The family will greet friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday (10/18) at St. Paulinus Church in Syracuse, NE with a Rosary at 7:00 p.m. Memorials may be given to St. Paulinus Catholic Church Building Renovation or the Dunbar Volunteer Fire Department.
