Keep NC Beautiful plans April 12 e-cycling event

Keep Nebraska City Beautiful will sponsor an Electronics Collection Event from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, April 12, at the parking lot of the Rowe Memorial Public Safety Complex, 1518 Central Ave.

Items to be accepted for free recycling include computers (desktops and laptops), flat screen monitors, keyboards and mice, network equipment, printers, fax machines, cameras, cell phones, stereos, electronic toys, projectors, sound and video equipment, DVD players, games, rechargeable batteries, and microwaves.

Other items that will be accepted free of charge include wire, cables, toasters, vacuums, washers, dryers, power tools, lawn equipment, snowblowers, chain saws, water, heaters, and air conditioners.

Event organizers ask that power equipment be drained of oil prior to being collected. There is a limit of two large appliances per household, and KNCB will pay half of the recycling fee for four items per household.

Environmental processing fees will be charged for appliances containing freon ($10 each), console TVs ($100 each), CRT TVs and monitors ($1/inch measured diagonally), flat-screen TVs ($1/inch) and bulk alkaline batteries ($1/pound).

Star City Recycling is partnering with Keep Nebraska City Beautiful for this event. The Nebraska City High School Science Club is also assisting with this event.
