Press Release
Keep Nebraska City beautiful invites residents of Nebraska City to take part in a litter cleanup on Tuesday, April 22, at 3:30 p.m. Volunteers will meet at the Sunken Parking Lot on Central Avenue to be part of the Greatest American Cleanup, a nationwide litter cleanup and green-up initiative led by Keep America Beautiful.
Volunteers will be picking up litter along Nebraska City streets and highways while contributing to the larger effort to remove 25 billion pieces of litter and beautifying 25,000 communities by July 4, 2026, America’s 250th birthday.
Garbage bags, safety vests, grabbers, and gloves will be provided by Keep Nebraska City Beautiful. The cleanup effort can involve government officials, Scout troops, schools, clubs, civic organizations, church groups, sports teams, families, and individuals.
“This is a great time for businesses and local residents to come together and really show the pride we have in our community by picking up litter along the streets,” said Sally DuBois, Keep Nebraska City Beautiful executive director.
Each year, Keep America Beautiful engages approximately 500,000 volunteers in a nationwide effort to remove litter from roadways and waterways, plant trees and flowers, restore parks and recreation areas, and support recycling initiatives—helping to create healthier, safer communities.
In 2024, Keep Nebraska City Beautiful volunteers picked up more than 2,000 pounds of litter. For this year’s event, Keep Nebraska City Beautiful aims to collect 2,500 pounds of litter and have 200 volunteers.
Keep Nebraska City Beautiful is encouraging residents of Nebraska City to join the Greatest American Cleanup by taking the pledge to pick up litter, recycle, and reuse so Nebraska City can be as beautiful as possible ahead of America’s 250th birthday. Residents can take the pledge at kab.org/greatest.
