Douglas H. Wampler, age 56 of Omaha (formerly Nebr. City) passed away on Sunday, October 2, 2022 at Lakeside Hospital in Omaha, NE.
Douglas Howard Wampler was born on December 25, 1965 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Nebraska City, NE; the son of Donald L. and Darlene (Smith) Wampler. He grew up and attended school in Nebraska City, graduating from Nebraska City High School with the Class of 1984. He then attended Southeast Community College at Milford, NE where he received a degree in Electrical Mechanics in 1986. In 1996 and 1997, he attended the Iowa School for the Blind and he later earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in Business from Bellevue University. Doug had previously worked at American Meter in Nebr. City and then at Outlook Enrichment (formerly Outlook Nebraska) in Omaha for 20 years. He started in production and worked his way up to Department Facilitator. He took great pride in training those who were visually impaired with adaptive aids and computer applications.
Doug endured many physical trials, but his determination and optimism gave him the confidence to embrace adversity on a daily basis. He was incredibly hardworking and dedicated, despite many personal and professional challenges.
Doug was especially known for his sense of humor and quick wit, while maintaining a touch of orneriness. He loved the outdoors, as well as taking on a new project/home improvement. He was extremely supportive of his children’s various activities and had a strong Christian faith. He was a part of the Sparrow Creek Friends Church in Indiana.
He was united in marriage to Judith Angeline Uncapher on July 15, 2015 in Rochester, Indiana.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife Judith Wampler of Omaha, NE; children: Klarissa Feickert (Braden) of Nebr. City, Sabrina Darnell (Mike) of Nebr. City, Mitchell Atnip (USMC) stationed at Twenty Nine Palms, CA, Robin Atnip (Paul) of Lexington, KY; one granddaughter Alice Atnip;
mother Darlene Wampler of Nebr. City; siblings: David Wampler (Tammy) of Lincoln, NE, Dan Wampler (Benne Sue) of Plattsmouth, NE, Deanna Cheney (Mike) of Council Bluffs, IA; his beloved guide dog Phineas; numerous nieces, nephews other family and friends.
Doug was preceded in death by his father, Donald Wampler; paternal grandparents Howard and Dorothy Wampler and maternal grandmother Della Smith.
The family will greet friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 7 at Gude mortuary in Nebraska City. The Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, October 8, 2022 at Gude Mortuary. Burial will follow at Wyuka Cemetery in Nebr. City.
Memorials may be given to Gideons International (for Bibles) or Outlook Enrichment in Omaha, NE.
