Doubles teams sweep, lead NC versus CC

Clutch performances by Nebraska City doubles teams pushed the Pioneer girls’ tennis squad to a home win over Cornerstone Christian on April 3 at the Steinhart Park tennis courts.

Susan Kincaid and Elizabeth Poggemeyer posted an 8-3 win at No. 1 doubles and posted one of three wins in a sweep doubles performance. Also with wins were Elizabeth McNeely and Josephine Bennett, 8-3, at No. 2 doubles, and Laney Vanderdewyk and Mia Valqueir, 8-6, at No. 3 doubles.

Cornerstone Christian posted four wins on the singles’ courts, but two wins by the Pioneers helped to soften the blow of those victories and led the Pioneers to a 5-4 overall win in the dual.

Elizabeth McNeely won 9-8 (7-0) at No. 4 singles and Laney Vanderdewyk won 9-8 (7-3) at No, 5 singles. Others competing for the Pioneers were Susan Kincaid, 8-2 loss at No. 1; Elizabeth Poggemeyer, 8-3 loss at No. 2; Mia Valquier, 8-3 loss at No. 3; and Josephine Bennett, 8-5 loss at No. 6.

In other action from last week, the Pioneers fell 8-1 to Ralston on April 1. Susan Kincaid and Mia Valquier paired for an 8-4 win at No. 2 doubles. Other results were Elizabeth McNeely and Elizabeth Poggemeyer, 8-1 loss at No. 1 doubles; Josephine Benett and Gabriela Rojas Guaminga, 8-0 loss at No. 3 doubles; Susan Kincaid, 8-0 loss at No. 1 singles; Elizabeth Poggemeyer, 8-1 loss at No. 2 singles; Mia Valquier, 8-2 loss at No. 3 singles; Elizabeth McNeely, 8-6 loss at No. 4 singles; Laney Vanderdewyk, 8-2 loss at No. 5 singles; and Josephine Bennett, 8-6 loss at No. 6 singles.
