Clyde C. Stoll

Clyde C. Stoll, 96, passed away on July 11, 2022, at his home in Nebraska City surrounded by his daughters and family.

Clyde Chester Stoll was born on May 9, 1926, in Dunbar, Nebraska to Joseph William and Ruth Esther (Willliams) Stoll. Upon graduation from Nebraska City High School, Clyde was drafted in the Navy where he fought in the Pacific Campaign upon the USS AMMEN. Honorably discharged, Clyde hitchhiked upon dirt roads from Kansas City back to Nebraska City after war’s end.

There at the skating rink, he met the love of his life Alyce Ann Childers. They were married on August 16, 1946 and celebrated over 45 years together. To their union, they added eight daughters and settled their life in the Nebraska City area. Clyde managed the Phillips 66 station in Nebraska City and eventually added the oil truck.

As a proud veteran, Clyde wanted to impact his local community. He served as a City Councilman and as a County Commissioner. He was proud of the bypass and the added safety of the overpass construction. Clyde also belonged to the American Legion for 50 years and was a member of the Elks club. In his free time, he loved to play cards, laugh, and tell yarns.

Clyde was preceded in death by his wives Alyce Stoll, LuAnna Childers Stoll, and Earlene Reigner Stoll; his daughter Carol O’Flaherty; his parents Joseph and Ruth Stoll; his five brothers: John Stoll, George Stoll, Joseph Stoll, Paul Stoll, and Frank Stoll; his honorary brother Chick (Charles) Connell; and five sisters: Grace Stoll, Ruth Heng, Opal Biner, Patricia Holder, and Betty Bartek.

Clyde is survived and loved by his daughters Alyce Hollesen of Nebraska City, Deborah (Dean) Hlavac of Louisville, NE Clydene Stoll of Omaha, NE, Brenda (Kenneth) Vodicka of Nebraska City, Ellen (Tim) Mitchel of Nebraska City, Lori (Tom) Bennett of Lincoln, NE, and Paula (Greg) Avery of Nebraska City. He leaves 20 grandchildren, 42 great grandchildren, and 10 great-great grandchildren; his sister Mary Ann Dickerson of Beaumont, Texas; countless nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, and friends.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary’s Church in Nebraska City on Tuesday, July 19, 2022, at 10:30 AM. Interment will follow services at Wyuka Cemetery, and a luncheon at St. Mary’s Church will occur after graveside services. A viewing will be held at Gude Mortuary on Monday, July 18, 2022, from 5:00-7:00 PM with the rosary recitation to follow.
