A new scholarship offered by the Nebraska City Community Foundation Fund will help put technical training within the reach of more people in the community.Following the wishes of an anonymous donor, this scholarship, called the Dixon Scholarship, is specifically designed for Nebraska City students and/or workers of any age who are pursuing or wish to pursue careers in technical fields such as agriculture, skilled trades and technical sciences, health care, manufacturing and transportation.Anyone pursuing a certificate, diploma or associate degree program at any publicly accredited Nebraska community college or technical school is eligible to apply for this new scholarship.These $1,000 scholarships will be offered twice a year to residents of Nebraska City or graduates of any high school located in Nebraska City.
Ten students from Lourdes Central Catholic competed in the Nebraska Academic Decathlon State Competition held at the University of Nebraska Omaha on February 16 and 17 and brought home major hardware, placing 2nd in the Very Small Schools category, designated as schools with enrollment of up to 126 in grades 9-12.
On President’s Day, members at large of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, supported by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2634 and other organizations in Nebraska City, distributed sacks of candy, pastry, fruit snacks, toothbrushes, toothpaste, and new white socks to the men and women veterans in the three Nebraska City nursing facilities.The veterans in the facilities are especially appreciative of the new socks.
