LCC Speech Team sends three to State

The Nebraska City Lourdes Central Catholic Speech Team competed at the C2-1 District competition at Lincoln Southwest on Saturday, March 9th.Bringing medals home were:Drue Weeda, Kellen Barker, Murphy Roby, Oscar Krog, and Cora Krog- 5th place OIDLevi Edgington- 3rd place Extemporaneous Evie Dorman- 1st place Extemporaneous Cora Krog- 3rd place PoetryEvie Dorman- 3rd place Informative Edginton, Dorman, and Krog will advance to the state speech competition held Thursday, March 21, in Kearney.

Nebraska’s archaeological history reviewed by Lewis and Clark Center speaker

An archaeological excavation site is similar to creating a cake in that you cannot complete restore a dig to its original pre-excavation state any more than you can unbake a cake.Archaeologist Nolan Johnson of History Nebraska made that comparison during his presentation on Nebraska archaeology on Saturday, March 9, at the Missouri River Basin-Lewis and Clark Center during the center’s annual Native American Artifact Show.Johnson said archaeologists use a lot of math and science and note-taking when evaluating a site, and he added that cultural resource management is the most common reason archaeological work is done in Nebraska.Johnson localized his presentation to include information on archaeological work done at the Cowles flour mill north of Nebraska City as well as work done at Duck Creek Recreational Area before the reservoir was filled.

NCPS board sets last day of school year, approves 2024-2025 calendar

Tuesday, May 14, will be the last day of school for Nebraska City Public Schools students for the current school year.The Nebraska City Public Schools board of education approved the date of the last day of the 2023-2024 school year at the board’s March 11 meeting.Board members also approved the calendar for the 2024-2025 school year, with the first day of school for all students set on Wednesday, Aug.

Otoe County Board of Commissioners 3-15-24

The Otoe County Board of Commissioners met on Tuesday, March 12, and took the following actions:Awarded the $298,457 bid for construction of a wash bay and replacement of tin at the Otoe County Roads Department shop in Syracuse to CJS Construction;Approved the vacation of a section of county road located in the west ½ of the northeast ¼ of Section 3, Township 8N, Range 9E of the 6th Prime Meridian, Otoe County, Nebraska; andTabled a discussion of road issues at 10th and C roads.The board also met on Tuesday, Feb.

Smith announces 2024 Congressional Art Competition
