PSC Volleyball Drops First Two Matches of the Season

This past weekend the Bobcat volleyball team hit the road for a tri-match as they faced Central Christian College and Sterling College in Sterling, Kansas on Friday night. Unfortunately, Peru State lost a heartbreaker in the first match after being up two sets to zero and ended up losing in five. Sterling handled Peru State as they swept the Bobcats who fell to 0-2 to start the season.

Pioneers and Lourdes football teams kick off season

Watch the News Press for the Upcoming Sports Preview Two other Pioneers also won double gold at state Kirt Manion, CherryRoad Media The Nebraska City News-Press recently printed an article regarding Beau Lee of Lourdes walking on as a member of the men’s track and field team at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. In that article, the News-Press noted that Lee’s accomplishment of winning double gold for the long and triple jump at the 2022 state track meet was the first double gold in Nebraska City’s history since Nebraska City Pioneer Emily Duran won gold medals for the shot and the discus in 2000.

Husker Football Season

Husker football is just days away as Nebraska travels to Dublin for the first game of the 2022 season on Saturday, Aug. 27 against the Northwestern Wildcats. The game time for Nebraska will be 11:30 p.m. CT, which is an evening game in Dublin with the time difference factored into the equation. Both Nebraska City and Northwestern are coming off of disappointing 2021 campaigns although the Huskers did hand the Wildcats a defeat in Lincoln last year.

NC fastpitch softball closes out 38-win summer campaign

The Nebraska City Fastpitch Softball 18U team closed out its 2022 season at the USSSA 18B Nationals Tournament in Wichita, Kansas July 13 – 16. Competing against 24 teams from throughout the Central States region the team compiled a 3-3-1 record at the event. The national event closed out a successful season for the team, finishing the summer campaign with a 38-8-1 overall record. Season highlights include first place finishes at the Nebraska City, Eastern Nebraska Wins for Warriors Memorial Day and Southeast Nebraska Softball League tournaments. Additionally, the team achieved an undefeated record in league play at 15-0. Offensively the team Batting Average for the season was .447, with a 2.96 ERA defensively. The team is coached by Nick Schmitz, Rob Becker and Phil Silvius.
