Nebraska City played on the road in the second week of the season, falling to Omaha Roncalli by the final of 50-20. Austin Sterling threw for 115 yards on 11 completions and rushed for 16 yards. Bayler Poston led the team in rushing with 37 yards and Keston Holman had 25. Markus Nelson had four grabs and 69 yards while Chris Blum had four catches for 53 and Bayler Poston had two grabs and 40 yards. The Pioneers are 0-2 and will play next at Platteview on Sept. 9.
Sofia Fulton Nebraska City scored two wins in action at the Omaha South softball tournament on Aug. 25 and 26.
Pictured are the members of the Nebraska City 14-and-under baseball team, which won a state championship over the summer and helped out a teammate along the way. The team was coached by Kyle Ferguson, Alex Schnitzer and Dru Leyden. Players were Braylon Fletcher, Tate Holle, Dane Lyons, Callen Schnitzer, Landon Ferguson, Trevor Flash, Edgar Ruiz, Kaden Klassen, Mason Vonfeldt, Reed Hamling, Andrew Hodges and Blaine Leyden. The team hosted a fundraiser for teammate Jack Davis, who is battling lyme disease and rocky mountain fever. Jack has been unable to attend school for the past two years and the family has had to deal with many medical bills. The fundraiser by the team raised $10K.
