The Lourdes Knights volleyball team wrapped up its season with a loss to Palmyra at the subdistrict tournament on Monday, Oct. 24, at Lincoln Lutheran. Scores from the match were 24-20, 25-20 and 25-15. Aspen Meyer had nine kills and Jenna Box had eight kills and three blocks for the Knights. Amelia White had 10 digs while Sofia Fulton had 10 digs and set for 21 assists. The Knights final season record was 20-12.
The Nebraska City boys’ tennis team recently wrapped up another fantastic season on the court with medal recognition at the state tennis championships. Nebraska City has had players in medal contention in four of the past five years beginning with twin Pioneers Logan and Langston Hoover.

Kirt Manion, CherryRoad Media Turnovers and two scoring drives keyed an upset win by the Nebraska City football team against the playoff bound Auburn Bulldogs on Friday night at Pioneer Field. Austin Sterling had a one-yard touchdown plunge which capped a 60-yard second quarter Pioneer drive that consumed almost seven minutes of game clock.
Nolan Beccard connected on touchdown passes of 53 yards, to Callen Schnitzer, and 75 yards, to Miles Poppleton, on Thursday, Oct. 20, in playoff action at Lawrence Nelson. Those scores, combined with twopoint runs by Brady Schnitzer and Poppleton had the score tied at 16-16.
Nebraska City High School continued its pregame tradition of firing up the football team and honored area first responders as part of it. The team has a tradition of motorcycle riders firing up their engines to welcome the Pioneer football players to the field. On Friday, Oct. 21, players were welcomed to the field with the sirens of first responders who were in turn honored for their unwavering support for the community. The first responders gathered for a photo during the pregame on Friday.
The NCHS Athletic Booster Club inducted eight members into the NCHS Athletic Hall of Fame (Class of 2022) during half time of the Pioneer football game on Friday, October 21. The following members were inducted into the Class of 2022 Hall of Fame: Jack Hobbie, Class of 1969 Athletic Highlights: High School: Jack was Nebraska City's first State wrestling champion.
Lourdes swept a Tuesday, Oct. 18, triangular against Lewiston and Pawnee City to finish the regular season with a record of 20-11.
The Peru State volleyball team on Friday, October 14, and Saturday, October 15, dropped matches to Mount Mercy and Clarke on the road they lost each match in three sets. The Bobcats are now 6-18 overall and 3-11 in Heart of America Athletic Conference play.
