The Peru State women's basketball team won its home opener 80-74 over Haskell Indian Nations University on Monday, Nov. 7.
The Peru State men's bowling team finished second at the Bronco Open hosted by Hastings College. They finished in fourth place in the qualifying rounds and then defeated Hastings College in two sets in bracket play to move on to the final round where they faced Kansas Wesleyan and lost two sets to one.
The Peru State men's and women's cross-country teams competed in the Heart of America Athletic Conference Championships on Saturday, November 5, in Des Moines, Iowa, hosted by Grand View University. The women's team finished in 11th place in the women's 5K with a time of 2:01:21.82 and an average time of 24:16.37.

Nebraska City’s Makayla Vasser added an accolade to her young athletic resume recently when she was named as the Cornhusker State Games Youth Female Athlete of the Year. Vasser won seven medals at the 2022 Cornhusker State Games. She won gold in the shot put and silver in the discus for track and field. She won gold medals in wrestling for the boys’ 14-andunder freestyle, the girls’ high school freestyle and the girls’ high school folkstyle. She won silver in boys’ folkstyle and boys’ Greco Roman. Youth sports for the Cornhusker State Games are for those 17-and-under. There were 322 youth track athletes and 272 youth wrestlers. There were 2,000 overall youth female athletes at the games. Athletes from 23 states competed in six divisions and 71 sports at the Cornhusker State Games in 2022.
Hunters returned to rural Nebraska the weekend of Oct. 29 for the 2022 upland bird hunting season opener and found variable success.
The Nemaha Natural Resources District (NNRD) is once again accepting tree orders through its Conservation Tree Program. The Program encourages the planting and maintenance of trees and shrubs for windbreaks, shelterbelts, wildlife habitat, firewood, and Christmas trees.
