The Nebraska City boys’ golf team wrapped up its 2025 spring season at the Class B-4 District tournament at Jackrabbit Run Golf Course in Grand Island on May 19.

Wade Halvorsen, defensive coordinator for the Peru State Bobcats football team, spoke to members of the Nebraska City Rotary Club during their weekly meeting at Valentino’s on Wednesday, May 14. Halvorsen spoke about the football program, last year’s 7-3 record, spring football and the upcoming 2025 season, which begins on Saturday, Aug. 30, at the Oak Bowl against Oklahoma Panhandle State. The Bobcats are coached by Head Coach Paul Ockinga. Among the Peru State assistant coaches are former Nebraska City High School Head Football Coach Lou Varley, a longtime coach at Peru, and Trevor Krenk, a former athlete and coach for Nebraska City and Lourdes.
A season of improvement continued for the members of the Nebraska City High School boys’ golf team during action at the Trailblazer Conference tournament on May 5, at the Beatrice Country Club.
The Nebraska City baseball team wrapped up a 5-15 season with a 6-0 loss to Ralston at the Class B-3 tournament at Ralston on May 8.
The Pioneer tennis team competed in a pair of duals last week with a clash against Omaha Gross on May 5 and a match against Platteview at home on May 8.
The Nebraska City Pioneer track and field teams competed at the Johnson County Central Invite at Tecumseh on Friday, May 9.
