The Peru State baseball team pulled its season record to 8-8 following a four-game home and away sweep of Park University on Saturday, March 25, and Sunday, March 27. After earning home wins by scores of 11-7 and 4-3, the Bobcats traveled to Parkville, Mo., where they picked up wins by scores of 3-2 and 2-1.
Nebraska City opened its baseball season on Monday and Tuesday, March 20 and 21 with a pair of home games at Clemmy Holmes Field against Bennington and Omaha Roncalli. The Pioneers had their first scheduled game of the season called off due to weather on March 16 at Mount Michael Benedictine.
A total of 17 athletes, including 10 returners, are competing on the Nebraska City girls’ tennis team in the 2023 season under Head Coach Victoria Ward. Carline Gay, Jada Lyons and Megan Essary are seniors on the team.
Eagles track teams place fifth at Pioneer Indoor Meet The Johnson-Brock boys and girls track teams took part in the 2023 Pioneer Indoor Meet at Doane University on Wednesday, March 22. The boys team placed fifth overall with a team score of 49 points.
The NCHS Athletic Booster Club is accepting nominations through Saturday, April 15, 2023, for the Class of 2023 Athletic Hall of Fame. Any person can nominate a Nebraska City Pioneer Athlete by completing the nomination form available at Nebraska City High School, Nebraska City Pioneer Athletic Booster Club Facebook page, or by emailing pioneerboosterhof@gmail.com to request a form.
Miles Poppleton of Lourdes Central Catholic was named as an honorable mention selection for the All Pioneer Conference boys’ basketball list. Lourdes players were named to the All Pioneer Conference list for girls’ basketball.
A total of 36 athletes are out for track and field this year at Lourdes Central Catholic. The breakdown has seven seniors, five juniors, 11 sophomores and 13 freshmen.
After a strong finish last year, the 2023 Pioneer baseball team will be looking for a strong spring and a potential trip to the state tournament. “After finishing last season with a 10-11 record and losing to the state runner-up (Waverly) in districts last season, the boys are focused and ready to get to work,” said Coach Kyle Ferguson.
A total of 29 athletes are out for track and field at Nebraska City High School for the 2023 season. The breakdown is 19 boys and 10 girls. Of those athletes, nine are freshmen, eight are sophomores, nine are juniors and three are seniors.
Twenty-four athletes are out for the Nebraska City boys’ golf team this season with the breakdown being seven seniors, six juniors, seven sophomores and four freshmen. Seniors on this year’s team are Jayden Borns, Eli Davis, Landen Clark, Zach Ackerman, Alex Rico, Vance Weninger, and Dalton Knippelmeyer.
