Aspen Meyer scored gold medals in a pair of events and the Knight girls’ track team finished first in a relay on the way to a fourth place finish in a 12-team field at the Lewiston Invite on the Pawnee City track on Tuesday, April 11.

Nebraska City track competed at the annual Scott Nisely Invite on the Syracuse track on Thursday, April 13. Scoring medals for the Pioneer boys’ team were JR Rico, first, 3200, 10:59.45; third, 1600, 5:09,14; Mason Houghton, third, 3200, 11:18.63; Kalan Fritch, third, long jump, 20’4”; Brayden Earll, fifth, discus, 135’2”; The Pioneer boys’ 4x400 team of Jordan Cooper, Mason VonFeldt, Cameron Bock and Dane Sjulin picked up sixth with a time of 4:06.53.
The Lourdes girls’ and boys’ track teams traveled to Tecumseh on Monday, April 3, for the Johnson County Central Invite with the girls’ team taking second place in the final team standings. Pawnee City won the girls’ meet with 95 points while Lourdes had 83.
Parents and players got a chance to meet the new head coach of the Nebraska City High School boys’ basketball team last week at a clinic at the high school on Friday, April 7. Coach Tom Ahlschwede has been selected for the position and is taking the reins from Coach Matt Thompson who will focus his attention on the duties of athletic director at the school.
Cael Kreifel went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and three driven in to power the Pioneer baseball team in a 10-6 win on Tuesday, April 4, at Steinhart Park. Kreifel’s home run in the bottom of the sixth inning capped a 10-run frame for the Pioneers and allowed the home team to rally from a 3-0 deficit to build a winning margin on the scoreboard.
Nebraska City hosted its annual invitational track meet on Thursday, April 6, with seven teams in attendance. Syracuse won the girls’ side of the meet with 138 points, while Blair was second with 120.
Lourdes Central Catholic is pleased to announce the hiring of Parker Trumble as the new Head Coach for boys’ basketball. Trumble will take over the program previously led by Trevor Krenk.
Nebraska City’s varsity golf team began its season with tournaments on Monday, April 3, at Plattsmouth’s Bay Hills Golf Course, and on Thursday, April 6, at the Pioneers Golf Course in Lincoln. Brody Koehler had a medal-winning 18-hole score of 95 to take 14th place for the Pioneers at Plattsmouth.
