Nebraska City’s track and field teams competed on Monday, April 24, at the Falls City Invite. Top six finishers for the Pioneer boys’ team were Kalan Fritch, first, long jump, 19’10”; Brayden Earll, first, shot, 39’04”; first, discus, 112’3”; fourth, 300 meter hurdles, 49.04; Mason Houghton, first, 3200, 10:42.35; JR Rico, first, 800, 2:12.31; second, 1600, 4:48.57; Cameron Bock, second, high jump, 5’2”; Dane Sjulin, second, 400, 54.88; fifth, 200, 26.22; third, long jump, 18’4.5”; Tucker Popish, third, discus, 100’5”; Mason VonFeldt, fourth, 200, 25.96; Isaiah Aldana, fifth, shot, 34’10.5”; Breyden Durand, sixth, 100, 12.84; sixth, 200, 26.63; and Jordan Cooper, sixth, 400, 1:00.77.

Nebraska City hosted Blair on Thursday, April 20, dual with Baylor Lee coming away with an 8-6 win at No. 3 singles to lead the Pioneer effort at Steinhart Park.

Rico claims distance gold at Syracuse meet

Nebraska City track competed at the annual Scott Nisely Invite on the Syracuse track on Thursday, April 13. Scoring medals for the Pioneer boys’ team were JR Rico, first, 3200, 10:59.45; third, 1600, 5:09,14; Mason Houghton, third, 3200, 11:18.63; Kalan Fritch, third, long jump, 20’4”; Brayden Earll, fifth, discus, 135’2”; The Pioneer boys’ 4x400 team of Jordan Cooper, Mason VonFeldt, Cameron Bock and Dane Sjulin picked up sixth with a time of 4:06.53.
