Late-game rallies resulted in a split of Monday, April 23, and Tuesday, April 24, games for the Nebraska City baseball team. A three-run seventh inning delivered a one-run win for Nebraska City against Crete on Tuesday.
Nebraska City shot 391 and finished 10th at an invitational golf tournament on the Beatrice Country Club Course on Monday, April 24. Leading the Pioneer boys’ team with a pair nine-hole 45s was Brody Koehler.
The Pioneer girls’ tennis team hosted Brownell-Talbot/ Concordia for a dual at the Nebraska City tennis courts at Steinhart Park on Tuesday, April 25. Falling in matches for the Pioneers on the singles side were Baylor Lee, 8-1; Megan Essary, 8-0; Jada Lyons, 8-0; Lucy Chaney, 8-0; Caroline Gay, 8-2; and Hanna Peter, 8-3.
Lourdes scored 110 team points and picked up a second- place finish behind Tri County in girls’ track and field action at the 2023 Pioneer Conference meet at Tri County on Saturday, April 29. Medal winners were Aspen Meyer, first, high jump, 4’10”; first, 200, 27.20; first, 100, 13.23; Evie Madison, first, 3200, 13:30.42; second, 1600, 6:23.31; Jenna Box, second, 300 meter hurdles, 51.14; third, long jump, 14’7”; Brooklyn Borer, second, 100, 13.27; second, 100 meter hurdles, 15.36; Mikena Haag, fourth, 100, 13.57; Mia White, fourth, 1600, 6:44.66; Lauren Benedict, fifth, high jump, 4’6”; Mary Misner, fifth, 300 meter hurdles, 57.59; sixth, 100 meter hurdles, 18.49; and Izzy Fulton, sixth, 400, 66.32.
Nebraska City dominated a pair of late-week opponents to raise their season record above .500 just a week out from the district tournament. The Pioneers topped Falls City, 9-0, on Thursday, April 27, posting seven of their runs in the fifth inning.
